About The Borders Distillery

The Borders Distillery, located in Hawick, opened in March 2018 — becoming the first whisky distillery to operate in the Scottish Borders since 1837. Its creation marked an exciting revival of whisky production in a region long associated with history, textile manufacturing and border trade.

Built within a restored Victorian industrial landmark, the distillery is known for:

  • Sustainable production methods

  • Modern distillation equipment

  • High-quality barley sourced from local farms

  • A clean, cereal-forward new make spirit

The resulting whisky is typically:

  • Light and grassy

  • Sweet with vanilla and honey

  • Fresh with soft orchard fruit

  • Perfectly suited to bourbon maturation

Because of the distillery’s young age, casks from The Borders Distillery remain relatively rare and increasingly sought after by independent bottlers and collectors.
